Frequently Asked Questions

What is ExamForge?
ExamForge is an exam-prep workspace. Upload your own PDFs, slides, or Word docs and it drafts practice questions with explanations; you can also import question banks or build them by hand. Practice in timed, tutor, or review mode, and analytics track your accuracy and weak topics by system.
How do I create an account?
Click the "Create account" button on the homepage or visit the registration page. You'll need to provide your email address and create a password. After registering, you can immediately start using the platform.
Can I try ExamForge before subscribing?
Yes! Free accounts can take up to 10 questions per hour across any available exam banks. This lets you experience the full exam interface and analytics before deciding to subscribe for unlimited access. No credit card is required to get started.
What types of exams does ExamForge support?
ExamForge supports a wide variety of standardized exams including USMLE, NCLEX, board certifications, and more. You can also import your own question banks for any exam using our flexible JSON format.
What does "Public Beta" mean for me?
ExamForge is currently in public beta. That means you can sign up and use the full product today, but we're still actively iterating: features and pricing may change, occasional bugs are possible, and we lean on user feedback to set priorities. Your data, subscriptions, and progress are not throwaway — beta refers to ongoing polish, not a temporary trial. If something breaks or feels rough, email [email protected] and it will reach a real human quickly.
What is the difference between Timed and Tutor mode?
Timed Mode: Simulates real exam conditions with a countdown timer. You won't see explanations until the exam ends, which helps you practice under pressure.

Tutor Mode: Provides instant feedback after each question. You can see explanations immediately and learn at your own pace without time pressure.
How does the AI explanation feature work?
When you answer a question, our AI analyzes your response and provides a detailed explanation of the correct answer, why other options are incorrect, and related concepts you should understand. It's like having a tutor available 24/7. However, AI outputs can still be wrong, incomplete, or misleading, so you should review them critically before relying on them.
What are Ask AI and Teach Me?
Ask AI lets you ask a free-form question about whatever you're studying — a tricky question, a flashcard, or a concept — and get a focused answer in context.

Teach Me walks you through a topic Socratic-style, breaking it into prerequisites and guiding you step-by-step instead of just handing over the answer.

Both draw from your monthly AI budget on Premium and Power User plans. AI output can still be wrong, so always sanity-check what you study from.
What is Review mode?
Review mode is the third exam mode (alongside Timed and Tutor). After you finish or pause an attempt, Review mode lets you walk through every question with the correct answer, your answer, AI explanations, your notes, and any flags. It's the best place to learn from a completed attempt — filter by incorrect, flagged, or skipped questions, jump straight to weak topics, and revisit explanations without restarting the exam.
Can I import my own question banks?
Yes. Premium subscribers can import custom question banks using our JSON format, but only for material they created themselves or are otherwise authorized to use. Uploading plagiarized, pirated, leaked, scraped, or otherwise unauthorized commercial prep content is prohibited. Check our documentation and Terms of Service for details.
Are AI-generated questions, flashcards, and explanations guaranteed to be accurate or original?
No. AI-generated material may contain mistakes, omissions, bias, outdated information, or language that resembles existing third-party content. You are responsible for reviewing and validating any AI-generated output before you study from it, share it, publish it, or import it into another system.
What are SmartCards and how does spaced repetition work?
SmartCards are ExamForge's flashcards. Each time you review a card, you rate how well you knew it, and an enhanced SM-2 spaced repetition algorithm schedules the next review for right before you're likely to forget. Cards you struggle with come back sooner; cards you know cold space out further. You can build decks manually, import them (CSV or JSON), or generate them from your own documents with AI. The Free plan includes 10 reviews per hour; Premium and Power User remove that limit.
Can I upload commercial question banks or copyrighted prep materials?
Not unless you have the right to do so. You must not upload, import, or share copied, pirated, leaked, scraped, memorized, or plagiarized commercial question banks, books, PDFs, answer keys, or similar copyrighted study materials. We may remove infringing content and suspend accounts that violate this rule.
What happens if I close the browser during an exam?
Don't worry! ExamForge automatically saves your progress every few seconds. When you return, you can pick up exactly where you left off with all your answers preserved.
Can I flag questions for later review?
Yes, you can flag any question during an exam to mark it for later review. Flagged questions are highlighted in the question navigator and can be filtered in your review history.
Can I download questions for offline study?
Most ExamForge features require an internet connection. If your connection drops temporarily, your recent progress is autosaved so you can continue when you reconnect. We may expand limited offline support over time, but offline study downloads are not currently a standard feature.
What analytics does ExamForge provide?
ExamForge provides comprehensive analytics including:
  • Overall accuracy and score trends
  • Performance by topic/category
  • Time spent per question
  • Weak areas identification
  • Answer change analysis
  • Historical performance tracking
How are weak areas determined?
Weak areas are calculated based on your performance in different topics and categories. Topics where your accuracy falls below a certain threshold are flagged as weak areas, helping you focus your study time where it matters most.
Can I export my analytics data?
You can view all of your analytics directly inside ExamForge — accuracy, streaks, time per question, weak topics, and historical trends. You can also export your account data as JSON from your profile (see Account & Data Rights), which includes your raw exam attempt history.
What are the subscription options?
We offer two paid plans, both available in monthly and yearly billing.

Premium unlocks unlimited questions and flashcard reviews, AI question generation, the full analytics dashboard, exam publishing, and a monthly AI budget for Ask AI and Teach Me.

Power User includes everything in Premium, plus a larger monthly AI budget, larger source-file uploads for AI generation, and higher batch limits for heavy generation workflows.

Yearly plans save roughly 17% off the regular monthly rate. New subscribers also get an introductory price for the first 3 months (monthly) or first year (yearly). Check the pricing page for current rates and the full feature comparison.
How does the AI budget work, and what are the generation limits?
AI features (question generation from documents, Ask AI, and Teach Me) draw from a monthly AI budget that resets at the start of each calendar month. Roughly:
  • Premium: ~$3 of AI usage per month, source-file uploads up to 10 MB.
  • Power User: ~$8 of AI usage per month (about 2.5× Premium), source-file uploads up to 20 MB, and higher batch limits for heavier generation workflows.
The budget is non-transferable and does not roll over to the next month. Free accounts do not include an AI budget. Exact limits can change as we tune the system; check the pricing page for current numbers.
Is there a refund policy?
Yes, we offer a 14-day refund guarantee for PayPal payments. If you're not satisfied with ExamForge within the first 14 days of your subscription, contact us for a full refund. See our refund policy for details.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your profile settings. After cancellation, you'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period. We don't offer prorated refunds for partial months.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payments through PayPal, which supports most major credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal balance. All payments are processed securely through PayPal.
Can I share my account with others?
Each account is for individual use only. Account sharing violates our Terms of Service and may result in suspension. If you need help with access for a class, team, or study group, contact [email protected].
What happens to my data if I cancel my subscription?
Canceling a subscription stops future renewal and normally leaves your account, exam history, analytics, and flashcards available subject to free-tier limits. If you later delete your account instead, published community content may remain available in anonymized form and some records may still be retained for legal, security, billing, or backup reasons.
Do you offer student discounts?
We do not currently advertise a standing student discount. Check our pricing page for current plans and contact [email protected] if you need help choosing the right option.
What browsers are supported?
ExamForge works best on modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We recommend keeping your browser updated to the latest version for the best experience.
Is there a mobile app?
We do not currently offer a native iOS or Android app. ExamForge is optimized for mobile browsers and can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on supported devices.
Is my data secure?
We use HTTPS/TLS in transit and apply safeguards designed to protect account and study data. We do not sell your personal information. Some submitted content may be processed by service providers, including AI/model providers, when you use those features. No system is perfectly secure, so please review our privacy policy for more detail.
Can I use ExamForge offline?
Most core ExamForge features require an internet connection. If you temporarily lose connection, recent progress is saved automatically so you can continue when you reconnect.
How do I reset my password?
Click on "Forgot password" on the login page. Enter your email address and we'll send you instructions to reset your password. The reset link is valid for 24 hours.
How do I delete my account?
Use the delete-account control in your profile settings. Deleting your account closes access, cancels future subscription billing where applicable, removes or anonymizes certain account data, and preserves published community content in anonymized form because other users may depend on it. This action cannot be undone.
